Oh please....using those examples as characterizations of all free markets is like using the response to Katrina or the Vietnam/Iraq wars as the way government always works.

I certainly think that we need increased regulation of the markets and have explicitly stated that the markets have broken down in health care. Of course, some of that is due to the government. The current system of insurance would NEVER have evolved without the subsidy provided by the government for employer provided plans. We have also lost competition in many markets which needs to be restored. That could be done through a public plan, but way to many see that as the only possible solution. The government as always evil is an idiotic thought but so is the government as savior.

JMO, many of the comments on this thread have gone way beyond attacking the excesses of the free market to attacking markets themselves and have also lost sight of the drawbacks to having the government make so many decisions for them.
