If we take a longer view, America has done well with firm government "intrusion" in some areas, and plenty of space for a vibrant private sector at the same time. We lead the world in information technology, and government did nothing to impede that for the last 50 years. Ditto mass market retailing of all kinds and probably a dozen other things I could list if I scratched my head a bit more. But it's proven that the private sector will systematically screw over their customers in some sectors, given the opportunity. It happens over and over. So if the pendulum has swung back to government stopping some of that, more power to them in my book. We don't need another trip over the edge courtesy of the latest bunch of greedheads run amok.
