"Or perhaps it's only a "death panel" when Obamacare does it but not when Blue Cross does it?"

Yes, perhaps this is precisely the case.

That wasn't the way I meant my comment. I meant it as opposition just for the sake of opposition when one has animus toward the politician proposing it. Some people would oppose anything that Obama came up with, even something they wanted.

When rationing is done by a private company, you can switch to another insurer. However, when it comes from the government, it's likely to be an offer you can't refuse.

However, I take your point on the differentiation between private and public and I agree with your statement. In fact, I posted the very same argument just the other day.

Still, why is this suddenly an issue in Obamacare when Medicare and Medicaid have been doing it right along. And Medicare covers those most likely to be affected. It's the elderly, after all, who do most of the dying. Nobody has ever accused Medicare of death squads? So why now all of a sudden?

And what would people have health care payers do, whether private or public? Pay for everything? What's the alternative?

Still seems to me like an visceral reaction based on political animus.
