I belong to a Cancer prayer group and I don't think I could say any prayers for him after all that had been published linking him to Mary Jo Kopechne's (SP) death by drowning. His level of honesty in that accident scene and his confession the next morning was an insult indeed. His punishment was astonishing to read in that he got a two months suspension of his driver's license. I certainly do not believe he got the keys to his driver's car to drive her back alone to her hotel safely before the party ended. I think he had another motive for doing so... Kind of hard to respect someone that thought more of his own survival than he did another human being that thought she was safe in driving away from the party and purposely tried to circumvent what truly happened after the fact by swimming back over 500 yards to his own hotel and taking a shower before he called any one about his troubles to help with an alibi. The media reported Mary Jo had clawed the lining in the top of the car as she evidently found an air pocket and probably hoping and praying someone would find her. They may try to paint him as a man of honesty, but history will deny that by the facts of this one event.

But I know he died a horrible end of life. Brain Cancer is one of the most serious kinds to have and even with treatment they still experience the severe pains that come with it and are usually heavily sedated with other medications until they don't help enough and then use morphine to put them in a coma and if they show signs of any discomfort, they begin increasing the doses to keep them comfortable.

My sister-in-law died of brain cancer and after her first treatment she was rushed to the hospital still in so much pain they put her on pain medication and a couple of weeks later they put her in a morphine induced coma and she lived for five months without ever regaining full consciousness. Her family and friends sat with her 24/7 to keep track of her actions and advise her doctors what was going on with her at all times. If she stirred or made faces of pain or even moved a finger or blinked her eye lids, we were to immediately notify the head nurse and when we did each time her morphine doses were increased on her doctor's orders to do so.

One other thing, I read of him sending in a provision for the Health Reform Bill stating that all of Congress would still retain all their benefits 100% and thus not be part of the original Bill. I personally don't think he was in any kind of awareness to do that at the time it was reported. The fact that the media reported he could not attend his sister's funeral indicated to me he was close to his final days of life and I seriously doubt he was aware of her death at the time and was not surprised to read of his death that shortly thereafter.
