One interesting tidbit I read the other day was the Ted Kennedy turned down a universal healthcare proposal offered by of all people 'Tricky Dick' Nixon!

That's a bit of a surprise, but it shouldn't be a shock. Nixon, at least by the time he became president, was no supporter of small government. He expanded regulation, created regulatory agencies (for example the EPA), increased government spending, indexed Social Security for inflation, and created Supplemental Security Income, implemented wage and price controls, and a 10% tariff...

If someone (at least a Democrat) tried all that today he'd probably be called a socialist.

The only real surprise is that Ted Kennedy turned him down...
