I think 15-20% of the electorate is in the process of choosing (and being goaded) to secede in a psychological way. Since the wingers lost power, their only way to "gain power" in a system where they don't even get an electoral shot for another year, is to build the maverick notion that they can somehow define themselves outside the American polity.

Where that goes, I don't know. But it's an ugly, ugly trend that is picking up steam.
