Tens of thousands of Ted Kennedy's constituents from Massachusetts and others are honoring this man yesterday and today in Boston because they understand the greatness of the man and his family in American history.
Re Kennedy and his Senate record...
"There was a seriousness, a doggedness, to Kennedy. He was no limousine liberal. He was a prodigious worker, the strongest force in government for women's rights and health care, civil rights and immigration, the rights of the disabled and education." Evan Thomas, Newsweek
The personal side of the man...
PERSONALLY INVOLVED "He told me in a voice that was cracking about how sorry he was for what had happened to Al and that he was a hero and a good person," my mother recalled." I said, 'You have survived all the tragedies in your life and I hope I can survive this as you have done.' By the end I think we were both crying." Kennedy also offered help and comfort, and in the coming weeks, my mother needed it, and got it.... "When dad died, it was as if Kennedy was personally holding my hand," my mother told me.
