The protection of property rights by law is another thing that could be characterized as thin as piss on a rock when the subject of who gets what from who comes up.

Maybe it's thin, but ya still gotta go with the odds. Better a megalomaniac mine owner than a megalomaniac sheriff. The sheriff can protect you from the mine owner but the mine owner can't protect you from the sheriff. Once you've ceded everything to the sheriff, it's all over. From the mine owner you can recover. Maybe you didn't watch western movies when you were a kid. <g>

I personally have witnessed several instances where individual property rights were not just violated but actually converted ( stolen ) entirely within the framework of U.S. law, nice and legal.

Bad stuff happens. It always will. That's no excuse to just throw up one's hands at the Constitution. We have something good going on here. So cavalierly giving it up is tragic. As long as the foundation is still there there's hope.
