"So forget a politically charged idea like social security or welfare"

Surely. Rand saw what the "from every man according to his ability (tax them like Hell) and to every man according to his need" did in the country that she fled from in horror and terror. There is a fictionalized account of that sort of thinking in "Atlas Shrugged" when Dagny is being told how the motor car company went "welfare state" and out of business. None of the employees were worth a damn and those that were got the Hell out of there. Workers sought to achieve values of inferiority and "need" because their "need" was rewarded. In Canada we see how easily certain people attach to the need/reward paradigm. They get paid for having kids so who has extra kids? The poor, the helpless, the hopeless...those who can only offer their kids a lifetime of dependency and negative inferior thinking.

"we just saw how thatworkled out with bush"

Hardly. Bush has less in common with Rand than you do. He is a fundamentalist born again who spent a ton of Government money promoting Christianity. So tax them like Hell but who decides and what values are used when determining where the bloody money goes? You and George Bush both think you know where slave labor money should go but one of you has little say in the matter. Therefore, it goes to things that George Bush believes in...
