A question....Why don't private hospitals belong to co-ops, or be part of a large buying group that buys drugs from the suppliers at wholesale prices (like Costco does), and keep these drugs in the individual hospitals to dispense as need be to the patients?

I know they used to do that, and drug prices were much cheaper then, even the expensive ones.

It seems that EACH hospital now has to buy themselves...is that right?

Or if they are buying at wholesale prices, is that a place where the hospital tries to make money by "selling" them at regular non wholesale prices to each patient on an as needed basis?
