<<Are you saying that it is the Congress that is the problem? If that is so then this country has a very sad future.<<

Yes congress is the problem. What the average Joe does not seem to understand is that when anyone gives over $25 to a campaign, they expect something in return.

Campaigns workers looking for jobs are expected to give $1,000. If they work on the campaign all the way through, they get big jobs if their person wins. How it is done. New governors for instance have tons of appointed positions to give out. This is how everyone does it.

Same with congress and lobbyists. Lobbyists give huge amounts to campaigns, always pick up the tab for dinner, for everyone dining at the table or having drinks with the lobbyist. Teh lobbyists don't just gove money to the cmpaigns, they give money to staff and even freinds. They always pick up the tab.

I have gone ot many dinners with a lobbyist who were not even lobbying me, but they alays paid as they get reimbursed from their empyees. It means nothing to them. They are paid to give out money (read buying people).

And the unwritten rule, is that if a politician takes that money, it is undestood they will give those persons preference.

Max Bacus and many of the dmes took hundreds of thousands of dollars. If they vote against the people they took the money from all hell will break lose on them. Big no, no!!

The pressure is very intense. Most of the legislation you see is heavily influenced by the money lobbyists give to congresspeople. Lobbyists even write the legisaltion e.g. tax breaks for oil companies.

Remember when cheney had his oil CEO's over in a prvate meeting. He was askign them what they wanted. what type of tax cuts and government help. And then he used his power to get those things for them.

Simple and ugly as that and the people seem cluelss that his is going on. Maybe they need to pay attention.

PS the dems ahve been trying to get public financing for 40 years and the Republcians alway block it. Becsue they get so much cash form corporations. Nixon had so much money floating around he did not know what to do with it all.

A person without principles will always get more money.
