That was always my fear of my support decades ago for the United Nations. <One thing that puzzles me about the Left is - How can they be so sure that in 2 - or in 10 - years we will not get another government, which they will detest more than they did Bush..... and who will be messing with the healthcare system in ways they (the Left) will not like.... and the system will be there, already in place, ready and available to be messed with. >
I thought that once my efforts helped get it going, the Loony Left would run away with it and in a decade or two, I'd have young whipper snappers lecturing me about the United Nations while I was in the vanguard of those opposing it taking over everything from how to brush my teeth to where I was allowed to go for a walk and when, with travel permits and money spending all subject to Federal authorisation.
The UN is already a big Lefty spendthrift organisation doing everything but providing military security. Helen Clark was booted out of being Prime Minister of NZ and now has a big job wasting OPM on UN boondoggles.
The Left had better be careful what they wish for with Obamacare. When they are no longer allowed to get the medical treatment they want, they'll be sorry.
Regarding "uninsureds". I'm an "uninsured" but that's through choice. I prefer to pay cash for what I want to buy and who I want to hire than pay some insurer to waste a load of money - they have to make profits, their profits and salaries are taxed, they have offices to run, they have false claims to pay, they have loads of paperwork to manage, they have marketing costs, health care costs [for staff], I'd have to subsidize the high risk people as well as the fake claims, there are conferences they want to attend ... it all goes on the insurance premium.
NZ has [theoretically] free medical care. But it's not free and when you want it, you can't get the treatment you want, even if you are willing to pay.
Two nights ago, I was unable to get medication for a 2 year old's rapidly developing conjunctivitis because of "Obamacare" as run in NZ. There was hours of queuing at the "free" Starship and other emergency places. It was 7pm when I gave up and told them I'd hope that the bugs wouldn't be too lethal and harmful by the next day when gentlemen's hours doctor businesses were open.
On the way home, we went to a supermarket and all the essential items for survival were there, uncrowded, no queues, helpful staff, reasonable prices. It's odd that supermarkets selling soft drinks are willing to provide such good service but the medical cartel and government monopoly are not.
If I had crashed the car, a tow truck would have been there in minutes, beating an ambulance. Tow truck operators make money by fast response. The ambulance operators, which are comfortable sinecures, respond, "In due course, after due process". Delays are now such in ambulance service that it's better to phone a taxi company. Same for police. Police are "too busy".
Supermarkets are not too busy. Tow trucks are not too busy. Taxis are not too busy. They work day and night.
To protect cartel income, it's illegal to self-medicate with anything which is actually useful. Useless things are okay.
