How is an oligarchy composed of political bosses any worse than an oligarchy composed of self-selected corporate criminals? As Lane pointed out if your the political bosses you can make what you do not even illegal. If your a criminal you might be caught, prosecuted, sued, fired, whatever. Also without the active assistance of government corporate bosses don't amount to much of a oligarchy, they aren't government and don't have the direct power of government. If they "own" the politicians, maybe they can have some of that effect, but giving more power to government generally just increases the danger of this. If government doesn't control everything than corporate bosses can't (through the politicians they "own") control everything, and have less incentive even to try. China is not reinventing capitalism, they are reinventing communism, replacing and fixing the parts of it that didn't serve so well. There replacing part of communism with parts of capitalism. There making the whole a jumbled bunch of communism, fascism/corporatism, and capitalism.
