General Motors, which just released a 426-horsepower, 16-mpg Camaro to complement its 556-horsepower, 15-mpg Cadillac? Under the Cash for Clunkers mileage rules, both cars classify as clunkers!

Pardon me, but while I believe that the so called Cash for Clunkers was a stupid idea, especially the way it was configured, the above statement regarding the new Camaro and Cadillac is BS.

First off, the majority of both Camaros and Cadillac CTS's come with 6 cylinder engines, which easily get in the mid to upper 20's in MPG. The V8 Camaro SS, which is a really neat car, gets an EPA rating of 16 MPG City and 24 MPG Highway, and car magazine testing, which doesn't baby them, averages better than 20 MPG combined. Sorry, no clunker.

The Cadillac CTS-V, a low production, high performance model, is simply a great car, IMO the best that Cadillac has ever produced. It's EPA rating is 14/19 MPG with an automatic and slightly better with an optional manual trans. I'd love to own one. Even the outrageous new Corvette ZR1 with 638 horsepower is rated at 20 MPG highway.

This is the twilight era of fun to drive performance cars like these and as a car nut, that really makes me sad. Our political overlords have decreed that we will soon be downsized into properly green little crackerboxes...
