<Christianity is primarily a third world religion now and is the fastest growing religion by far.>
Not a good sign... intelligent truth seeking people leaving, ignorant starving people signing up.
<New agey things, Buddhism, Taoism seem to be growing most among secularized westerners looking for something with an exotic flavor>
That's your version.
If you talk to them they are the ones LEAVING the other "religions" due to obvious falsehoods they propagate.
Many recent 'teachers' (ie. Eckhart Tolle, David Hawkins, etc.,) point to Eastern ideas (and Catholic mystics) as more 'pure' in the sense that the orginial teachings were written down and translated earlier and with less "telephone game" error propogation than what happend in the West (Bible).
Moreover, these types aren't any one "flavor" at all, they come from all sorts of backgrounds and attempt to take the best out of whatever they can find.... and many of them actually see the similarities in ALL the teachings and gravitate towards those. Others are simply running away from obvious falsehood of the bible thumpers and hatemongers.
Oh, these people are serious spiritual seekers... no doubt about it. They're willing to go to great lengths in many cases... but realize god isn't about "sin and guilt, sackcloth and ashes" but actually "joy and happiness"... Although I'm not suprised by your comments... that's mainstream (Christian) dogma: that these people are just misguided lost souls "looking for an easy way out" and should just get back to church and misery where God really is...
