I know you asked Trufflette about AMZN but I'll let you know what I think of them.....They are WAY OVERVALUED!!!! I couldn't get shares to be short.....I have had no problem shorting various issues (I am new to shorting though) over the past 3 weeks. AMZN, in the "Finance Stars" issue of BusinessWeek, is apparently building huge wharehouses, increasing inventory and upgrading their network. The issue stated that the volume of books sold will have to increase 200% over current volumes for the bookseller to become profitable after the new infrastructure is put into place.

Some points:

1.) How do they differentiate themselves? (ie. better product, more products) - They don't.
2.) Are they selling a commodity product? - Hell YES!!!! No competitive and first mover profits will be made in the on-line bookselling industry. Sorry.....I find going to the bookstore far more enjoyable than cruising the web looking for books (And I love cruising the web).
