I'm not a Catholic and am not interested in Catholic dogma. I do appreciate that that church has a long history and a very respectable intellectual tradition.

I notice from the comments to the first book you listed that the Jesus material was pulled from Gnostic sources. So I guess its not surprising it resembles eastern faiths ... being world renouncing.

Of the Christianity - Taoism similarities, there are some. OTOH some of those are strained, dropping parts of sentences and context to make the match seem closer.
