When I fractured a tibia earlier this year, the orthopedic surgeon I visited wanted me to go another office of their practice for an MRI. This practice had their own MRI machine. My insurance ruled that out and said I had to go to the hospital for the MRI. The hospital charges $5k-$6k for this, so I can only imagine what the doctor was going to charge. Anyway, I have a $5k deductible and I saw the X-Ray. It was a hairline fracture right at the joint. There was no need for an MRI, so I didn't get one. It healed just great - back to 100%.
