"promote the general Welfare"

Did you miss that part?

The question really is, do the Government various Departments we currently have fit into the US Constitution? Do the various Entitlements we have put into place fit into the US Constitution?

Yes. You or anyone could take a challenge to the Supreme Court... I'm sure they would rule in your favor and abolish half the US Government. </childish and sarcastic remark>

In the 1970 census, we had a population in the US of 203.3 Million people. The Census Bureau time clock as of tonight suggests we have about 307.3 Million. ( I just looked these numbers up tonight.) This is an increase of about 104 Million people, or about 1/3 more than we had nearly 40 years ago.

Did the number of Federal workers shrink percentage-wise, or did it grow? If so, by what percent? And how many of those employees supported the Entitlements the Government has already created...?

Don't know. But my guess is if you took all government, fed state county and community you would probably find per capita shrinkage. A LOT more stuff in outsourced these days. There are more contractors in Afghanistan than soldiers (don't ask for a link heard that on TV). The feds are outsourcing MUCH more than they used to just 10-15 years ago. I've always wanted to see a number; how much government spending goes to private companies vs. government employees and other expenses.

But the bottom line is that government does a million things for you everyday so you can concentrate on being productive in whatever narrow field you are in. They test your food and water, your drugs, they regulate your transportation, in most areas pick up your garbage, police your 'hood, print your money so you can do commerce, defend your borders; all stuff you can't do yourself and have time to do anything else. And they do it mostly very well.

When government screws up, it makes the papers. When private companies screw up, it generally doesn't. I work for a private company and make dozens of decisions each week... and at least a couple are not all that great, some down right bad. I expect a government worker would have about the same proportion. They are just regular people, they are not evil. And they generally have a greater sense of public service than the average person.

So try to think a bit before you blanket condemn government. The electricity to power your computer may be coming from a nuke power plant... thank the government for inventing that. The Internet we are communicating on... thank the government. The walk on the moon... thousands of things. All government. Our great governments are what has made this country great; community, state and federal.

Thank your lucky stars you live in the USA. A little patriotism please.
