Excellent, a clear test which can be applied to the theory about CO2 emissions causing global warming: <The truth is that the threat we face is not an abstract concern for the future. It is already upon us and its effects are being felt worldwide, right now. Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013. Not in 2050, but four years from now. >

If the Arctic is NOT ice-free in the summer of 2013, which is not long from now so we don't have to wait 100 years to see if they are right, then we can say that the scientists, the so-called consensus, don't know what they are talking about so we can safely ignore them.

If the Arctic is ice-free, it will certainly improve shipping times and make fishing more widespread and recreational boating will be enjoyed further north. Expeditions to the North Pole will be easy too, just put on a warm jacket and sail a boat there.

If the Arctic is ice-free it won't prove the scientists are right about the cause. Such things happen for many reasons and they might have struck it lucky. Correlation is not causation. Coincidence of two things doesn't mean one caused the other.

But they have made a specific claim so their theory can be falsified. That's science.
