I feel sure that Obama doesn't get what the fuss is about. He doesn't understand that half the country trusts him as little as the left trusted Bush, and his habit of trying novel approaches to being President (like this speech to the kiddies) does not improve matters. People just don't trust him not to pull a stunt.

That said, I will be really surprised if there is anything offensive in the school speech. It's to his advantage to make the right look silly by producing a speech that even they must admire. "Make something of yourself and study hard. It's not acting white to do well in school." That kind of thing.
