Not every practice does this kind of work. But there are many, many that do.

I've been in oncology offices where the physicians foot the bill for expensive chemo treatments for some indigent patients who had no other alternative. Usually, however, there are other alternatives.

Would you listen to yourself? Any MD who allows that to go on for any period of time will have to raise his rates for his paying customers. In fact, their bean counters would be strongly encouraging them to do so. Its the very thing that is wrong with health care in the US. And yet you can't see it because you don't want to see it.
