That's a very misleading graph. It does not take into account the dramatic increase in life expectancy in the last few decades, mixing old and new retirees. A few decades ago most workers at Boeing and other companies worked well into their sixties and after retirement they did not live much longer since life expectancy was pretty low. Lately workers retire much earlier, because the companies encourage, reward, and force such early retirement. So the graph simply compares life expectancies of present day retirees (who get retired in their fifties) with past retirees (who retired in their sixties).

Other studies that properly compare life expectancies of people born in the same year show that the longer you work (or otherwise keep busy), the longer you live.
