Re rising costs -- That article was talking about the Canadian oil market and Canadian companies. There are a "ton" of tiny Canadian oil companies that are thinly capitalized so it makes sense that they are hurt by rising costs.

This should not have any effect on the "solid" companies. The higher costs may just thin out those companies that shouldn't be in the business in the first place.

There are plenty of companies that will (and can) pay the higher prices, so the others will be culled from the herd and go back to knitting or something with lower capital requirements.

You won't find any of those companies in the offshore business where costs are REALLY high.
