(COMTEX) SECURE COMPUTING ANNOUNCES INTEROPERABILITY WITH ASCEND COMM SECURE COMPUTING ANNOUNCES INTEROPERABILITY WITH ASCEND COMMUNICATIONS' Secure Access ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR), a leading provider of total network security solutions, today announced successful completion of interoperability testing with its BorderWare Firewall Server 5.0 and Ascend Communications' Secure Access(TM) 2.0, providing a high level of security for Virtual Private Network (VPN) capabilities to enterprises deploying Secure Access 2.0. The commitment of both companies to standards-based technologies, such as IPSec, enables the enhancement of network security solutions to provide greater levels of confidence in the protection of mission-critical information. "Our interoperability with Ascend's Secure Access 2.0 gives organizations flexibility for optimal security as they establish their networks for secure communications around the world," said Joseph Stockwell, vice president of business development at Secure Computing. The successful interoperability of BorderWare and Secure Access 2.0 was largely due to the common support of the IPSec standard for encryption, allowing a VPN to be established between the two products. A VPN allows organizations to connect remote offices for secure communications and exchange of information through an encrypted tunnel. All traffic between BorderWare and Secure Access 2.0 can be encrypted using IPSec to prevent compromise of the information by intervention of an unauthorized user. "As organizations expand their corporate networks to accommodate remote offices, they demand high levels of security to ensure the protection of their information assets. We look forward to further opportunities with Secure Computing to provide network security solutions to meet the diverse needs of network computing environments," said Dave Dawson, general manager of Ascend's Network Security Division.
