It should be no great surprise that if you engage in deficit spending, the economy gets stimulated. But what happens when the bill comes due? Deficit spending can work with few ill effects if it is short term. When it goes on over an extended time, it causes problems. As we now see, even getting outsiders to fund the deficit spending eventually runs out of steam. The bill has come due. All we need now is an administration that admits it in action as well as words.
