"Hardly anyone considers the past three decades of economic growth to be solely the result of Volcker's policies." Volcker's policies laid the foundation. Deficit spending did the rest. "Three decades of deficit spending and loose monetary policy has led to this mess, yet Obama wants to continue doing the same things." The choice is pretty much between spending more or taking a collapse. Again, it might not work, in which case we won't be any worse off. But it might. We can quibble about the odds, but there it is. "How are we not postponing the inevitable? By invoking the name of Keynes?" No. By invoking policies that have worked in the past. It should be a simple choice. But, what the heck! Why not make the choices that have failed in the past? Because, you know, maybe we will be lucky this time! People do win the lottery after all!
