I don't know if I would call it a "front organization" exactly. It's more the case that most of the whole Democratic Party has been taken over by its progressive wing. The trouble with these people (aside from what implementing any of their plans entails) is that they seem very myopic politically. During campaigns, they seem to understand that they are a minority and must run stealth, centrist-seeming candidates, but they govern in an immature way. They got into office and lost all sense that they couldn't just jam progressive bills through Congress when even in a Democratically controlled congress they have a distinct minority of votes. Net result: the Democratic Party divided, the Republican Party united in opposition.
