Check THIS out. Mainframes as...WEB SERVERS! No I am NOT kidding. Lessee... IBM doesn't want to loose its SNA-like architecture so, update a 3270 terminal to a NCDI NC, run TCP/IP on the MF with some server-type software, outsource the storage hardware so to replace hideously expensive HDAs with STLC RAID arrays linked by ANCRs FibreChannel! Know what you've got? A new life for your mainframe, proven interoperability with any type server in the world via TCP/IP and HTML, transparent access to world-wide resources, reasonable costs and an architecture that doesn't require signing you life away to IBM just to fix, add or upgrade. ANY suitable box could be a server alongside the MF in this environment without a $%#*(#$! "gateway" or emulator product. But of course it is IBM, who couldn't market food to starving Ethiopians. It'll last a week :( Scott
