I just got this email from Humana -- my insurance company:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strongly recommends flu vaccines for anyone wanting to reduce their risk of getting the flu. However, it’s especially important for people at high risk for complications from seasonal flu:

Children 6 months through their 19th birthday

Pregnant women

People 50 and older

Anyone with a chronic medical condition

Residents in nursing homes or other long-term facilities

Those who live with or care for those at high risk for complications also should get the flu vaccine. That includes people like healthcare personnel, household contacts, and caregivers – including those who care for children younger than 6 months old.

Please keep in mind that the seasonal flu vaccine will not protect you from H1N1 – or “swine” – flu. You may need an additional H1N1 vaccination. For the most up-to-date H1N1 information, log on to cdc.gov

In the meantime, there are plenty of everyday ways to protect yourself from the flu and pneumonia, like covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and washing your hands often.
