WRT opting out of Medicare.... someone recently - don't have the link - wrote a reply to this idea.... namely, if all the money I paid into Medicare and SS over the years could be returned to me, with a reasonable interest, I'd opt out of Medicare and SS. Regrettably, none of that money exists, it's been spent long ago.

I don't think it's fair to offer people who over the years paid huge amounts of money into the system to simply walk away from it.
