USSR folks didn't know what to do once the state was gone. Individualism and entrepreneurship could not make any difference. neither were they used to democracy. The connected to former communist power seized the moment.

What will happen in the US and Europe?

As USD drops dramatically, the US will be forced by outsiders in a position to act tough. Being that politically impalatable. Obama will refuse to avoid civil disobedience.

This is a similar situation when the IMF forced structural adjustments to debtor countries. Refusing will gain support at home, but outsiders pull back support.
