You stated: "Our creation of technology infrastructure and plethora of neat modile widgets will once again propel american industries and its innovation for a larger world market to higher levels of wealth and prosperity." I wish you were right. Are you aware that China graduating more engineers than we are these days? It appears that the focus these days is on Wall Street (or Las Vegas East). An MBA is the big deal today. There are fewer Engineering graduates.

After deregulation of Telecom, the technology companies sprouted up everywhere and took advantage of work done in Bell Labs and the opportunities presented by deregulation. The focus in the new companies became options and research and development in the new technology world became focussed on the very short term. Bell Labs exists today only in name. Sure there are some new widgets being developed and some good people in good companies but you are not going to see a repeat of the past 90's - the worst malinvestment binge ever.
