<The falsity of Dawkins and the rest of the examples I named aren't being attacked.>
There is no scientific falsity as far as scientists are concerned
Sure there is. Its not a scientifically proven truth that there is no God so when people put forward the idea there is, thats a scientific fallacy.
------------------------ <No, I'm objecting to their place on the pedestal.>
But you just said mainstream people don't know about that pedestal (real science)... so as far as the mainstream is concerned it's just more books by someone who has a topic that sells.
No, to mainstream folks they (Dawkins, Shermer, Ruse, ...) are the real voice of science, not the real scientists writing in journals that no one but a small clique reads. So its appropriate to say society and the media place them on a pedestal. -------------------------------------
Look, what's worse, Dawkins selling his books (because of hot topic) to ADULTS, or wacko creationists SELLING THEIR CRAP to people for the purpose of teaching their CHILDREN falsity???!!
Yer upset about the wrong crew if you're worried about these things IMHO. You've got kids getting indoctrinated vs adults chosing to read about these topics (many of them probably get angry too).
I know which I see in the science section when I go into Barnes & Noble.
You know about half the public hold to "wacko creationist" beliefs and have for a century now of being taught otherwise in the public schools. That isn't happening because there are some powerful "wacko creationists" teaching them in schools or the media ... people choose what to believe themselves. IOW the folks who choose to reject evolution aren't simpletons fooled by some other crafty creationist, they CHOOSE to reject evolution themselves.
Frankly, ID if it were a tolerable alternative to materialism, would make a bigger reduction in the rejectionist percent. But who cares. |
