Paul, I disagree with your view on intel's next year earning. This year 2ed,3rd and 4th quarter earnings drop largely due to AMD's K6 since intel substantially dropped the price on >>50% of its CPU production in order to kill the competition before it establish itself. Remember PII only has less than 25% market now. Both intel and majority of intel's investors did not see K6's coming, and we paid dearly for it. (By the way, even after K6's introduction, I was still in denial. Hugh mistake, next time I hope I will be wiser.) But next year, with PII becoming the mainstream CPU and intel's sole ownership of slot II, who can challenge intel? As for the sub-1000 trend, there is nothing to worry about. Who is more capable than intel to subsidize the low end chip, as long as intel keep pricing power on the mainstream CPU? And what will happen when PII become a low end?
