This probably can be googled and researched, but based on my (anecdotal) observations it seems that a very large majority of young docs upon completion of their postgraduate training programs no longer become independent practitioners - they become employees. They get hired by large groups, by HMO's, by hospitals, etc.

Bottom line -- young docs as a group, especially primary care, no longer think about their professional future in terms of being independent. To many, a government takeover may mean little more than having to answer to a different boss.

Don't overestimate doctors. They've been taking crap from the government for decades.
