I just don't see how opting to put doctors on the federal payroll would be chosen as a solution to the problem of a shortage.

In an emergency caused by government stupidity rash actions are likely. (I am repeating myself.) Healthcare is one industry which cannot be allowed to fail. With mass emigration and retirement of doctors statists would look for short term solutions. Block emigrations and retirements and create a pool of "slave labor" doctors.

How could that produce more doctors? Some college kid sees doctors being nationalized so he decides to jump on that wonderful bandwagon and become a doctor? Not hardly.

That is one of the chief reasons why ObamaCare is such a bad idea.

I can't even begin to connect those particular dots.

That may be a reflection of your much greater trust in government.
