Yeah, but Japan is somewhat an atypical case. They are a VERY conservative society and have never been much of a "driver" in their economy even in the best of times.

The U.S. is a completely different matter. We have always been a consumer driven society. A whiff of inflation here could portend a deluge down the road.

The banks have "cut off the tap" so far for self preservation and government mandate but when they loosen the spigot it may quickly turn into a flood.

I've been thinking that we were in for a long period of deflation too, but I'm not thinking that way now so much.

After the close call we've been through, WHAT President, Federal Reserve, or Congress is going to be calling for TIGHTER monetary policy ANY time soon?
