I've been thinking about radio and broadcast in general.

In my CAR I turn it on, AM = Rush Limbaugh or Rodger Hedgecock. I listen to them for about 5 minutes before my amusement with their craziness turns to disgust. Art Bell was fun sometimes but he's gone.

Then I flip over to FM, down here in San Diego I have about 5 choices. None are very good and the canyons make for mediocre reception. I keep flipping back and forth between my music and the radio but I almost never find anything interesting on the radio. In LA I had about 6 choices. None were compelling. If I lived in the SF Bay Area the choices would be slightly more compelling.

On my COMPUTER I have literally THOUSANDS of choices. I've bookmarked a few station's play grids.

I listen to one radio show a week for 2 hours... maybe. One guy who has an amusing show, but after listening to it for a few years I can take it or leave it.

Am I different?

Has anyone found something compelling on the radio?

I used to listen to PBS radio for news or educational stories, but my computer is so much more efficient, I can skim past stuff I already know, or search for additional enlightening information. That's why I don't like podcasts, they are too slow, can't skim or search them. Sometimes I still listen to PBS when I'm working in the garage or something but I wouldn't do that with headphones or earbuds.

At home I do my information thing on my computer. When I'm in my car, that's my one time I can listen to music and not be bothered by guilt thinking I should be doing something productive.
