Nahhhh, I've only been to DC 16 times for a week to two weeks every year until 2000. Each time, I flew in from Seattle, took a taxi, and stayed 2 blocks from the WH in the Capitol Hilton... Walked that Zone One many many times in all sorts of places. Was invited to two special tours of the White House. I've seen many protest groups, including various of those who protested the 50 year Anniversary of NATO, saw a shut down of Zone One up close and personal the day of the Oklahoma Bombing, Walked several times to the Mall, walked to and through the American History Museum several times, including the WONDERFULY huge Book Store in the basement there...
Saw several exhibits at the Cochran, and several of the Smithsonian Art Museums, even saw the Chihuly exhibit being hung several years ago, and loved the Russian Treasures exhibit. Love Sweet Georgia Brown's Restaurant. Saw the Mayflower Hotel, the Hay-Adams and the Willard inside to eat several times and lots of the beauty and some of the not so beautiful) going on in Lafayette Park. Even had a cab take off when I was getting into the cab in the back, in front of the Capitol Hilton, and hundreds (literally) of people…and had to go to George Washington Hospital to check out knees and feet… Did take many, many taxis' both for that zone, and others, including the Lincoln Center and to the shops at Tyson's Corners.
Other than that, don't know your city that well. But I will say, I never protested there. <ggg> |
