what I see Beck as a symptom of is a diseased and corrupt press. I believe that Beck would be relegated to the rightwing fringe element if the press in the U.S. was healthy and doing its job. I believe that Beck gives a voice to a lot of people who normally would rather be dealing with mundane day to day stuff like their kid's little league, dance class, what happened at the office that day, but who are now very concerned about their future and the future of their kids. Even if we had a really messed up political situation like we do now, if the press was being a watchdog instead of an accomplice, I don't think Beck would be nearly as prominent as he is now.
