Nonsense. Constant dollars are used for such things because if you don't, you miss the fact that things keep getting more expensive.

Sigh. The failures of Operation Eagle Claw were manifold. However, most of the failures were because of a run of very bad luck. An unexpected sandstorm reduced the force to minimum levels, and the rest of the accidents made things impossible to complete.

But, let's ignore that for the moment. Inflation was outpacing the increase in expenditures. By a lot. So, if you don't calculate in constant dollars, you miss that services had to be cut. Which you obviously did.
