Hi Tycoon:

Here are my thoughts:

>IBM announced 18.2GB and 10000 RPM drives today, I was wondering if this
>puts them in the leadership position and if so, by how great a margin?

I think IBM will steal the show at the high end HDD market. SEG will feel the
most pinch, since they are heavily dependent on that segment. QNTM will feel
the least effect. They and WDC will continue to nibble a small share of that
market. I dont see them doing any better than that.

At the desktop side, things are different. QNTM and WDC will lead the way. IBM
doesnt have the cost competetiveness. SEG is hurting big. I will stick with
QNTM, did you see their Fireball ST shipments last Q?? 4 million drives!! They
are leading the MR curve. I have no doubt they will do really well. On top of
that we have the DLT icing. Didnt SEG announce their Travan drives?? We have to
see how that plays out.

APM's MR technology transistion is a huge risk. I think the whole world knows
that. RDRT has better MR technology(IMO). I dont think that Terastor has
anything to do with this. They will only complement DLT type storage, not
compete with HDs.

Hope that helps,
