The Great Depression is NOT a valid comparison because

a) the Fed was constrained in its abilities to produce monetary inflation

b) Smoot Hawley

c) balance budget requirements

Japan is NOT a valid comparison due to:

a) Demographics

b) Inflexibility of labor markets

c) Maturity of financial markets

d) Immigration policies/Globalized nature of workforce

The better comparison is Asia 1998. Even Russia, which was virtually bankrupt in 1998, had surpassed its prior GDP within a few years.

Post WW2 is the precedent, Mish, you continue to be on the wrong side of this and this time the record is public.
