Meathead, here's the point... I'm an expert in customer service to anyone in the corporation. My sole existance and the reason I have a budget is to help them with inforamtion technology tools that enable them to exceed the acheivement of their corporate goals. When it comes to the higher level Engr'ing applications. I don't have to know them. They are engrs. They TELL ME THE LEADING EDGE stuff they want to do and I help them fit it into a strategic and tactical toolset and sell it to mangement so we can buy it. I do have to provide that component to the rest of corporation. But, our engr's are inventors they don't need me telling them what to use.
Since you are use to I/S being inferior and dictating to you then you have no concept of what I'm talking about. That's why you keep telling me to name off a bunch of engring apps....which by the way..I could name a ton of them....but, I'm not since that isn't the point. For engr's I should just get their creative juices going and let them tell me.. then I need to make sure it fits a comprehensive overall I/S strategy, make sure the response times are instantaneous, make sure the application is up 100% of the time, and find root casue and pareto reasons for those not happening.
By, the way i set up a network where the engr's could administor their on proliant 4500 that is loaded and gave them ground rules to make changes. I don't think engr's should have to go begging to I/S to get their job done.
All of this is a dif customer service attitude that you aren't accustom to..or your posts and questions would be dif. I do help them streamline their processes with groupware, intranet, internet, extranet, and relational database applications like quality data collection, RMA, ECN etc. etc. etc. and I do help them with ways to create item master and BOM info on the ERP with zero data entry.. using extract and import tools. Engr'ing shouldn't have to do a bunch of clerk work |
