I read a story a couple of years back about the decimation of the dog fish in the Puget Sound. When fishermen inadvertently catch them while fishing for other species, they do what they can to kill the fish. Cut off their fins. Stab them repeatedly. Cut off their tails.....and throw them back into the water. This behavior.......which I have witnessed more times than I care to admit...........leads to a cruel and inevitable death. Like all creatures, Dog Fish play a vital role in keeping their natural environment balanced. Because fishermen have been doing this for generations, Dog Fish populations have declined dramatically and the species they eat are growing in numbers upsetting the natural balance of the Sound.
