Some thoughts from an exchange I had on another board this morning, and something that has quietly been bugging me for a while.
Thanks mostly to the anger, fear and anxiety generated by the economic crisis, we are seeing more and more what I call wannabe message board Nazis. These are folks with the simple but LOUDLY expressed philosophy, "If you don't think like me, say what I say and do what I do in the markets, you are a stupid, evil, delusional bubbleheaded IDIOT!!!!!!!'
What a crock. There are lots of ways to make money in different markets, with different risk levels and timeframes involved. For anyone to think they have a unique insight into THE way and THE interpretation of all known economic facts right now, that's just moronic and somewhere way beyond self-obsessed.
I can't daytrade for crap but I spend all day watching someone who does it really well. I'm glad for him, not angry. I choose to have my capital in the equity markets now instead of adding to my RE holdings, but I'm happy for folks who are out there snapping up great distressed property deals.
I'm pretty much happy whenever anyone does well on SI. Pity that sentiment isn't heard more often, instead of the usual venomous bile. |
