Remember, the primary issue I have is the monitor is both low contrast (compared to better monitors or any AAPL display, including laptops) and relatively dim -- I do not have this problem using my desktop at home (nor my mac laptops), only with the cheap-azzed Dell monitor on my desk at work.

My brother came to visit with a brand new top-of-the-line Dell laptop and we compared various displays with it. I found that display much better than the one on my desk at work, so I know that even Dell offers displays that would solve my issue quickly.

I'll pursue both solutions.
