Jon,

Good post...stupid guy in article.

Sprint Airrave has some shortcomings in how Sprint wanted it set up. It is essentially the same unit that Verizon has, with the small setup and SW changes that Sprint asked for.

A few I know about

1. Sprint asked for a BEEP when it hands into the Airrave box. This annoys alot of people.
2. The device does NOT affect this guys internet. It is his router setup in his house. I would BET that it is using the Sprint box in the Router mode and not in the SWITCH mode. This means you hook up the internt connection to one of hte SWITCH ports and not to the ROUTER ports.
3. The coverage has to be small. It is designed with a power liitation for a reason. It will kill the coverage outside the house when used for a Macro call. The coverage is intended to be small enough that a car driving by does not get multiple cell interference and thus make the macro coverage outside worse than it would have been inthe first place.
4. He is right that Sprint does not limit hte people ont eh femto cell. Verizon limits it to a list they setup for you or you edit on their web site. Sprint knows this one and is working on a new user itnerface for it.
5. The unit is used to provide coverage when no coverage is available. It is NOT intended to replace outdoor coverage. the output of 200 mW (or less ) is intended to go about 200 feet MAX. I think they list it as covering 1000 sq ft, but not sure.

These are not perfect, but they do work well. If you live way out in the country and drive into the city and use a cell phone, they are your answer. If you live way inisde of a cemet building and you do not get in building penetration, but you get very low levels inside, this is your answer.

We use these in demo setups all the time and they work well. They are not intended to replace macro coverage by any means.
