The only real hurdle is volumes. OLED capacity is predominantly from Samsung Mobile Displays right now and most of their shipments are going to the Samsung handset division. The entrance of a couple of new suppliers over the next year should make OLED's a viable option for Apple next year.

I actually think that this would be a nice way to tier the iPhone/Touch lineup. Start by offering an OLED in the $299 and higher price point and I think you would dramatically increase the number of people choosing the much higher profit devices.
